I am supposedly to start my diet plan since few days back, err not diet, I would say it’s a more-controlled way of how I feed my palate. Yet, it is just a plan and here I was today at The Dutch in SCBD. If you know UNION, The Dutch is part of UNION big family; then I shall believe the quality offer by The Dutch since my experience with UNION group has never once failed me. Good food, good quality, good service, and good ambient.
This is actually my first visit to The Dutch since their opening back in last March this year. Having located in SCBD Lot 18, it is very easy to spot if you are heading to Senopati from Pacific Place.
It was somewhere around 1330hrs when I arrived and it wasn’t that full as expected. Most people have been going back to work, it’s still Friday people. Anyway, the dark vintage and industrial ambient greeted me as soon as I got there. It looks cool and so masculine to my eyes regardless the lack of natural light around the dining area.
The concept is more into Gastropub where you can actually see the live kitchen (on your left hand side)
and the bar (on your right hand side).
Something attracts my attention is the copper Brauhaus Bridge which is able to dispense 7 different beers and a signature cocktail so-called Americano. Be warned that the taste is pretty strong and I got a lil bitterness on the after-taste. Tell me if you like it?
As a Gastropub, The Dutch doesn’t only focus on alcoholic beverages, but also on its food. They specialize in hand-made sausages; which unfortunately I didn’t manage to try their sausages but their new lunch menu set. Having fusion between Dutch, American and Asian style, The Dutch offers diversification of selections. Therefore, it can accommodate those mates who are quite picky with their palate (I have typical friends like that and I believe you do). Well, let’s start talking about their Set Lunch Menu which is also the main topic of this post.
For you who are residing (read: working) during those 8 hours-time in SCBD Senopati area or happen to be in this area for lunch, it may be a great deal for you. You may have noticed price range for The Dutch from other reviewers previously (I acknowledge my lateness, so you can click here). The set menu will cost you IDR 125k where you get to choose between Appetizer + Mains or Mains + Dessert as your option. In addition, you shall get a cup of tea or coffee as complimentary. What are those?
As for appetizer selections, you may choose:
1. Caesar Salad with Chicken / Pork
2. Greek Salad with Fetah Cheese
I don’t think I should explain why Greek Salad. If you can look closely, it contains of those watery and refreshing ingredients added up with the great Fetah Cheese. To be honest, this is so good as a starter before me turning a carnivore.
3. ERWTENSOEP – Split Pea Soup
If you have been to The Dutch, you should be able to recognize the infamous Split Pea Soup. This is one of their signature appetizers. It consists of Split Pea puree cooked with cream. The texture is soft yet tasty. It gives you somewhat good feeling when it touches your palate and also you can see those Rookworst sausage cuts as a good companion to add the flavor. They told me, its one of traditional food back in Netherland as it gives you warmth during winter time. So, as it is rainy season (not particularly rainy but we have numbers of raining these days) why don’t you get this one as many people acknowledge the goodness of this.
Enough for the starters, lets jump to the mains. *turning Carnivore now* As I have mentioned, despite of the name “The Dutch”, they don’t solely serve Dutch cuisine but Asian and American too. So, in the set menu also you will find varieties for your lunch.
1. Spaghetti with Spiced Pork Belly
Oh yes, it looks so sexy with cuts of pork belly doing hide-and-seek with me. The pasta is al-dente to my palate and can we drool only from the photo?
2. Grilled Ox Tounge, Garlic Long Beans, and Jasmine Rice
Hey you Indonesians, I bet you will need those white seeds so-called rice. I cannot imagine how big the Ox to have this long tounge (I am kidding), but the highlight for this is so tender and well-seasoned. I usually find that Ox-tounge must be eaten while its warm, as it gets colder it will turn chewy and no longer good. We ate this, I am being honest to you, after few minutes gone while waiting the others to completely come before we were happily dining together, the ox-tounge was no longer in warm condition. Yet, it turned out still good and not chewy.
It has strong sweet flavor which pleases me. Every slices was a joy with a spoon of Jasmine rice. Now I wonder, why didn’t I take the chili too, feeling so regret right now. Like it much! Should have been better while it is hot I believe.
3. Kebab Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce
I am saving this beast for the last, as it is happened to be my favorite of the day. A Huge Chicken satay stabbed on a steel stick with gorgeous plating. Although it looks crisp on the outside, the chicken meat tastes juicy and rich of flavor. The peanut sauce is also good to complement the dish. It is not easy to serve good peanut sauce, sometimes its too bland, or too sweet or too salty. But this one is good and yes! The chicken is so juicy.
If you consider to choose Mains + Dessert set, you also get to have an idea what the desserts are.
Either Bread and Butter Pudding with Vanilla Sauce and Raspberry Sorbet (Top left) or Brownie with Caramel Sauce and Coconut Ice Cream (bottom). But my eyes fall into the sexy Banana Nutella Poffertjes.
7 Banana Nutella Pofferjes in a plate are perfect to complete your appetite. I am not a dessert-boy as I don’t really fancy sweet stuffs. But this one is way too sexy to miss out.
The Poffertjes texture is soft and clean. I mean they are not sticky and the topping of Nutella and banana are not over-sweet the entire setup. I guarantee you will love it. You may share this among 2 or 3 people. That should be satisfying enough, yet if you are turning greedy, don’t let others steal it from you. You are warned!
If you are not a fan of Banana, you can opt to Black Oreo Cheese Cake. Everyone loves Oreo!
This is a more safe dessert option (not in the Set Lunch though, ah I am being inconsistent now). Cheese cake sandwiched with Oreo layer. I feel the cheese cake is not too strong, smooth and mild with Oreo dark and sweetness together. Combination of savory and sweet (somewhat like micin? Not really, sorry I am being absurd). I love this one too.
That is all about Set Lunch Menu which costs you IDR 125k only. Should be good if you opt for a good and satisfying lunch from The Dutch, but remember that the Black Oreo Cheese cake and Banana Nutella Poffertjes are not in the Set package. Once again, they ARE NOT in the set package.
Apart from that, we were also served on the table this mind-blowing Tuna.
Right from the first time I spoon one slices until its finished, I kept on saying uh oh its good its good its good. I cant really describe the taste, but they are rich in flavor, got the savory, got the freshness of the tuna, ah sorry guys, Cannot really describe it in details but it is real good. I cant really recall the name, but if you want to have one, just show them this picture. The waitress should be able to serve you one. Sorry I am not a good writer! Haha.
I am also quite happy with their Coconut Iced Coffee which I found interesting. Both coconut and coffee flavor are still there and it may help for your daily caffeine intake if you cannot (don’t like) drink (only) coffee. You shall get 2 glasses on serving, 1 glass of Espresso cube and ice cubes and another glass of coconut milk which you will pour it over the Espresso cube’s.
Last but not least, these are 2 bitjes (@yennymakanmulu and @eatandtreats) who I was sharing plates with, and also @edihartonoliem and @songofmarch. I might not good in writing, but since I like to share, I think it might not be that sinful for me to share something with all of you. Give me some constructive feedback if you think I need something to improve at. You are more than welcome to share this post if you are happy with my info, nevertheless. In the meantime, remember to work hard and be nice to people. I’ll see you on the next post! Bye!
